North Bay Ponds & Water is owned and operated by
husband and wife team Jesus and Rose Avila of Napa, CA.
Jesus’ previous experience with ponds started by
working for Bob Friedman, creator of Superbugs™ and owner of Enviro-Reps
International. The types of ponds that were being treated and
maintained by Jesus were mainly extremely large recreational ponds,
located in condominium associations and commercial buildings, ranging
from 100,000 to millions of gallons. After relocating to Napa and
realizing the amount of irrigation and private recreational ponds found
in the valley, Jesus decided to introduce Superbugs™, and an
environmentally safe method of water management.
In February of 2000, North Bay Ponds & Water was
created and initially operated by Rose Avila, while Jesus maintained his
full time position of journeyman mechanic servicing specialized
industrial equipment and worked in his pond business after work and on
weekends.
Although Rose’s background has absolutely nothing
to do with water gardens or Koi ponds, she does have experience in
business management and accounting. While taking a sabbatical from the
work force, Rose began establishing vendor and customer relations, as
well as adding and working a pond maintenance route.
While trying to introduce this little known method
of water management, the backyard ornamental pond hobby was slowly but
steadily increasing throughout the United States. It did not take long
to realize that the Superbugs™ could also help hobbyist frustrated with
deteriorating water quality in their water gardens and Koi ponds.
In order to become more knowledgeable in the water
gardening industry both Jesus and Rose attended Koi club meetings, hands
on pond building seminars, water management training, and constant
networking with other pond/water gardening retailers and service
centers. In 2001 a website was created and products began to be
marketed and shipped throughout the United States.
In March 2003, North Bay Ponds opened Napa’s only
pond/water gardening retail store, offering not only products and
equipment, but also aquatic plants, domestic and Japanese Koi, and
Shubunkins. |
